Course equating information:

• Language courses must be equated individually by modern languages faculty.  Please see the Academic Credit page and the information below to find forms and information about language course equating.
• Some courses listed in the table may not be available at the foreign university or international program during the term you study abroad - you will need to check with your adviser or the international university or program to inquire about course availability.
• Any foreign course equated to an OU course that is on the approved General Education course list will also be counted as General Education credit.  Click here for a list of approved General Education courses at OU.
• If you would like to take a course that is not on the list of equated courses, you are welcome to do so.  Please visit the Academic Credit page for forms and information about how to request to have a course equated.

All students are advised to carefully review the policies and guidelines listed on the Academic Credit page of the Education Abroad website.  The Academic Credit page includes a link to the form you will need to complete if you want to request an international course equivalency.

The Office of Admissions has final authority over the evaluation and posting of academic credit earned on an approved study abroad program.  It is always advisable for students to save materials from coursework taken abroad (for example - the syllabus, reading list, graded papers, exams, lecture notes, etc.) in the event there is a question or concern about how a course taken abroad may transfer as OU credit.

All students must complete a Credit Agreement Form by the deadline specified by their study abroad adviser in order to earn academic credit.  Students on semester and year-long programs will also be required to submit an Enrollment Verification Form within the first two weeks of starting coursework abroad.

Language Courses:

Students interested in having a course evaluated for a possible equivalency in a foreign language should submit an Application to Request a Study Abroad Equivalency for Language Credit located on this page.  Spanish and Japanese have specific course equation forms.  Please select the appropriate one from the list.  For Spanish courses, forms should be submitted to Shawn Gralla, MLLL Spanish academic adviser, in Kaufman Hall.

Students are more likely to receive equated course credit for language courses if supplemental materials from the course are supplied for review.  Supplemental materials from the course may include reading lists, detailed course descriptions, completed written work, course packets, quizzes and exams.
