Students may enroll for one semester or a full year and will be in direct contact with Bilkent's OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMS (OIEP) during the host university application process. With international students coming from 48 countries abroad, the OIEP offers two-week long orientations in early September and for one week in February prior to beginning of classes. Orientation is very helpful in understanding the academic procedures and regulations of the University. It includes Turkish Courses, a tour of the campuses and environs, sightseeing and places of interest in Ankara. The faculty to student ratio is only 1:10 and class size ranges from 5 to 60 students with the average class size at about 20 students. Beginning Fall 2013, Bilkent University offers free on-campus accommodation for incoming exchange students!
Subject to availability, this offer is valid for double rooms at Bilkent’s students dormitories. Students are expected to file their requests before the relevant deadline. Allocations are on a first come, first serve basis. Room type may differ based on availability.
The university dormitories consists of 26 buildings with various designs and features. Dormitory space is guaranteed for international students. They provide a peaceful, secure, comfortable, pleasant and hygienic atmosphere for approximately 4,000 Turkish and international students from diverse backgrounds, who have chosen to take advantage of the excellence in higher education offered by Bilkent University. The special and standard dormitories, all located on the Main and East Campuses, offer single, double, triple, quadruple and suite accommodation alternatives for our students, at varying rates.
Dormitory rooms are furnished with single beds or bunk beds, desks, desk chairs, bookcases or shelves, wardrobes, wastebaskets and mini refrigerators and have local & international direct-dial phones and TV hookups (except for Dorms 15, 77 and 78). All student rooms have UTP connections to Bilkent University's DORM-NET network, which provides high speed (1GB) unlimited access to Internet for academic purposes at no charge. Dorm common areas have amenities such as self-cook kitchens/kitchenettes, TV/social lounges, study lounges, self-service laundry and ironing rooms, and game and visitors' areas or rooms.
*Note that exchange students stay at the Main Campus dormitories. There is a free shuttle transporting students to/from Campus as well as to/from Ankara. Start by attending a Study Abroad 101 information session to learn the basics about study abroad as well as your next steps. Then, schedule an appointment with the study abroad adviser for the Middle East to move on to Phase 2!
