  • Academics: Most students take only classes in Spanish. See more below!
  • Cost: This is a University Exchange program, meaning you pay OU tuition/fees to the Bursar and on-site costs (housing, meals, etc) to UCM or local entities. See below for more information on cost!
  • Housing:  University Dormitories are not available, you find your own apartment in the city once you arrive. More info below!
This program is ideal for students majoring or minoring in Spanish!

Students from nearly any major at OU can find courses at this university. Based on courses desired, students are placed into a specific college within the university.  Participants are not required to be placed in the college where their official major is located.  For example, a business student with a Spanish minor who wanted to take Spanish literature, civilization and culture, could be affiliated with Filología Hispanica rather than business.

Some students take advantage of the free pre-semester Intensive Spanish course offered for exchange students before either semester begins.  In September the course is the 3 weeks before classes begin, but in February usually only two weeks prior.

Academic Calendar
  • First semester: September to early February
  • Second semester: February to June/July (varies by college)
  • The academic calendar of this university requires students to stay for an entire academic year or participate in a Spring semester only. Although you can participate in the Fall semester, Complutense does not end early enough to allow OU students to return to campus in time to start Spring semester classes.

Money Matters

Since this program is a University Exchange program you will pay OU tuition/fees to your OU Bursar, and housing/meals/immigration documents will be paid to your host country.
Complutense University Budget Estimate

There are number of scholarships available for study abroad students. Below is a partial list to get you started!

Students on this program usually arrive no later than 2 weeks before classes begin and find their own place to live.  That is frequently in a shared apartment with other students.  The International Office at the university recommends certain placement companies to help locate housing.  Some of them waive the application fee for exchange students applying through our network program.  Students who are not willing to accept this type of housing arrangement should not apply for this destination.  Rents in Madrid are usually higher than the other OU destinations in Spain.
