  • Academics: Most students take only classes in Spanish. See more below!
  • Cost: This is a University Exchange program, meaning you pay OU tuition/fees to the Bursar and on-site costs (housing, meals, etc) to the University or local entities. See below for more information on cost!
  • HousingStudents can select from dorms, apartments/shared flats, or home-stays. More info below!
This program is ideal for students majoring or minoring in Spanish!

Students may take Intensive Spanish language classes as well as regular courses with the Spaniards, combining those two curricular options within the same semester. The Spanish placement test required before taking Spanish for non-native speakers classes can now be taken online prior to arrival.  For more information about courses offered at Jaume I University, please click here.  Students should take care to enroll in courses taught in Spanish rather than Valenciano. For more information see here.

Academic Calendar
  • First semester: September to early February
  • Second semester: February to end of June
  • The nature of this Spanish academic calendar means that OU students interested in staying for just one semester will usually have to go for the Spring rather than the Fall semester. Although you can participate in the Fall semester, Jaume I does not end early enough to allow OU students to return to campus in time to start Spring semester classes.
Money Matters
Since this program is a University Exchange program you will pay OU tuition/fees to your OU Bursar, and housing/meals/immigration documents will be paid to your host country.
Jaume I University Budget Sheet

There are number of scholarships available for study abroad students. Below is a partial list to get you started!

There are several housing options in Castellon. Students can select from dorms, apartments/shared flats, or home-stays. The dorms are on campus, quite limited and first-come first-served, so apply as early as possible during Phase 3. Apartments are easier to arrange and can be found nearer to the center of town, but are difficult to reserve prior to arrival. Therefore, the staff at Jaume I suggest staying with a host family for at least the first month of arrival until you can research the apartment options. Finally, home-stays are quite popular for the OU students going to Castellon. Students have the option of staying with host families for durations of one month to one year. More details available upon request from EA adviser.
