Why did you choose to study abroad?

I wanted this experience to help me learn how to live on my own, thousands of miles from home. I also hoped my experience in Hong Kong will expose me to the diverse culture in China and the sights of the city. In the past, I have had the privilege to go to Hong Kong once before, so I have some interaction with the Chinese culture. However, study abroad during the spring semester offered the inviting opportunity to experience life as a college student in Hong Kong.

Why did you choose to study abroad?

I choose to study abroad, because I want a different cultural experience. I want to go out my comfort zone. I want to have an adventure. I want to learn and grow in a enviornment that is different from where I was raised.

What has study abroad done for you?

I have became more independent for the past four months. I was able to take care of myself without any help and I was able to find my way around on my own. I feel accomplished and proud in what I have done for the past four months and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience in Hong Kong.

My study abroad program has made me more open. It has made me more adpatable and more acceptable to differences. I am more satisified with what I have in my culture because of the experience.

What was the most memorable part of your study abroad?
|
I was able to communicate with natives of Hong Kong through English and they taught me Cantonese, the Hong Kong native language, and took me around Hong Kong to find the best places to eat and sight see throughout the city.

The most memorable part of my program was being able to travel to the surrounding countries and getting to know people from all over the world.

Who would you recommend study abroad to?
|
Those who are more interested in learning and experiencing about the modern and Hong Kong/Chinese culture and while being able to be in an environment in an English-speaking classroom. Also, for students who also want to explore other parts of Asia while still learning about the Chinese culture.

I would recomment study abroad to everyone, not just people who want to learn a new language. I think students with any major will be able to learn a lot in a study abroad program.
